Welcome to Newbury Aikido Club
|
Founded in 1985 by 4th Dan Kevin Lee, Newbury aikido club is a sociable and fun club that harbours the Tomiki way of training in aikido.
Aikido works by manipulating the force of an attack back on to its self so the size of the attacker doesn't matter. This type of training does not refer to the body and mind as separate but as one, making one whole.
Techniques are defensive and are applied smoothly, calmly and fluently and because of this, Aikido is a defensive martial art which sets it apart from others.
The type of Aikido at Newbury is that of Mr. Tomiki; a 9th Dan judoka, he put his twist on teachings from O’sensei with the aim of creating a style of Aikido that would appeal to both the younger and older persons alike.
